On April 25, 2021, the International Twin Cities Day takes place for the 58th time. It was first declared in 1963 by the United Towns Organization to proclaim values such as peace, democracy and international cooperation between local authorities.
For many years, the City of Essen has maintained close partnerships with the City of Sunderland in North-East England, Tampere in South-West Finland, Grenoble at the foot of the Alps, the Israeli metropolis Tel Aviv-Yafo, Nizhny Novgorod in Russia, the megacity Changzhou in Eastern China and Zabrze in Poland.
Essen's Lord Mayor Thomas Kufen also addressed our international friends with a video message to celebrate this day.
