Distribution of seats on the Council of the City of Essen

Following the last local elections on 25 May 2014 11 parties are represented on the Council, namely the

• SPD with 31 seats,
• CDU with 28 seats,
• Bündnis 90/Die Grünen with 10 seats,
• DIE LINKE with 5 seats,
• ESSENER BÜRGER BÜNDNIS with 4 seats,
• FDP and AfD with 3 seats each,
• Piraten and Pro NRW with 2 seats each,
• NPD and DIE PARTEI with 1 seat each.

In keeping with its democratic procedures, the Council has accorded generous rights of participation to the small parties.
